We are at a watershed moment, responding to the climate crisis is overwhelming in our everyday lives. Motivated by anxiety about the planet’s future, we use art as a mediator to open conversations and inspire actions that contribute to mitigating impacts of climate change.
Just as a rising tide lifts all boats, a swell of action from community has the potential to navigate the challenges of decarbonisation and alter the course towards a better future.

Suspended mid-air is a row boat upon which rests a multitude of houses and kelp elements. Formed with fronds of kelp and leaves, wrapped in a protective layer of carbon sequestering plantlike. Each of these is handcrafted from paperclay, a fully recyclable biomaterial, and formed from kelp and leaves.
Instal Plan:
Change the flow through community engagement. There's only 7 years to 2030, as government and business are slow to make necessary changes, create necessary swell from beneath, from community. Empower people to make change on an individual level. These conversations can be difficult as many have vested interest in the status quo. Art-making is a non-confrontational device to open dialogue. We will make work together and invite participants to make a promise/make change in return for a gift.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Already over 1 million people living near coasts have been forced from their homes due to rising seas and stronger storms
- 37% of the world's population lives near the coast
- Millions more are expected to flee in the coming years
- IPCC states difference between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius could mean over 10 million more migrants from sea level rise
- The Arctic loses on average 3.7% of its mass each year
- Antarctica has potential to contribute more than 2m of sea level rise if 1.5 degree increase is exceeded
- If we keep fossil fuels in the ground and limit warming to less than 2 degrees it can mean the difference between sea level increase of 50cm and 10m +
